The City of Huntsville has been recognized as a 2025 Trendsetter City by Arkansas Business in the category of Tourism Development/Creative Culture, honoring the community-led transformation of the historic Basham Building into a vibrant community center.
This honor from Arkansas Business highlights cities and towns across Arkansas whose innovative initiatives for community development and economic growth inspire change and make a difference in our state.
“The Basham Community Center shows what Huntsville can accomplish when we honor our history and invest in our future. This project reflects the heart of our community — hardworking people, strong partnerships, and a shared commitment to making Huntsville a place where families and businesses can thrive. We’re grateful for this recognition and excited for what’s ahead,” shared Mayor Dotson.
Originally built in 1919 as a Ford dealership and later home to a family-run service station, the Basham Building has long been a landmark of Huntsville’s downtown. In June 2023, guided by resident input and a commitment to preserving local heritage, the City began revitalizing the structure into a modern community gathering space. Today, the Basham Community Center serves as a hub for civic groups, nonprofits, families, and businesses—filling a critical need for accessible public meeting space in Huntsville and Madison County.
This is Huntsville's second Trendsetter City award. They were recognized in 2024 for their community event, Fiesta Latina. The city will be featured in the December 15 edition of Arkansas Business and will be further celebrated at the Arkansas Municipal League’s annual Winter Meeting in January.
Trendsetter City recognizes municipalities across Arkansas which demonstrate forward-thinking through initiatives and programs designed to improve the local quality of life and encourage sustainable economic development. The city of Huntsville’s commitment to visionary leadership, resident engagement and progressive growth strategies places it among Arkansas’s most pioneering communities.
Being recognized as a Trendsetter City speaks volumes about a city’s leadership and dedication to creating a vibrant and prosperous future. The honor underscores the ongoing efforts to foster economic growth, attract new opportunities and enhance the quality of life for residents.
“The Basham Community Center is a key part of Huntsville’s larger placemaking strategy, from park improvements to long‑term economic development. Thanks to partnerships with the Arvest Foundation and Madison County Telephone, we’ve now added a full audio‑visual and teleconferencing system, making this the first public facility in our area equipped for modern, hybrid community engagement. It’s another step toward building a more connected Huntsville,” commented Brandi Holt, Huntsville Economic Development Director.
Huntsville’s designation as a Trendsetter City reflects its role in advancing regional prosperity with creative strategies and community collaboration. This award is a powerful testament to the city’s strong position for future growth in business and development.
